When a person has only just broken a bone what are they given for the pain?!

Question: When a person has only just broken a bone what are they given for the pain?
Would your average pain medication like paracetemol work or does it have to be something strong like morphine?

I'm not talking a finger or toe something like am arm or ankle for example.

Answers:

No, people are not usually given morphine for a broken bone. It would more likely be an NSAID - a non steroidal antiinflammatory medication such as extra strength tylenol or similar.

When I broke my arm, I was given codeine upon arrival. After I was settled in my ward, I was given standard paracetamol tablets. I had to stay overnight, so I was hooked up to a morphine drip for the night to stop me from waking up, screaming.
