Uk question - colonoscopy without sedation?!

Question: Uk question - colonoscopy without sedation?
Im having a colonoscopy in a couple of weeks. i did have one scheduled for september last year, but after being kept waiting at the hospital for 2hrs i had to leave as i felt so ill from the fasting etc.
Im not too worried about the actual procedure, im more worried about the sedation. does anyone in the uk have any experience with this ( u.s preocedures may be different).
I have been reading up on having it done w/o sedation, has anyone had this done?
And do you have any tips on how to stay calm whilst waiting at the hospital? i felt like i was going to pass out last time, but i need to get it done and cant decide to leave this time.
thanks

Sorry; but, I am in the US and never been sedated. Procedures may be different; but, I am pretty sure they are going to stick a scope up you butt and route it around from the rectum to the cecum. You may want to learn the various parts of the large intestine so that you can see when the doctor is making the turns.

My doctor is an attractive female; so, I don't care what she does to me (just kidding). Actually, I was nervous the 1st time. During the procedure I watched the monitor screen; which, allowed me to disassociate myself from the discomfort (mostly air pressure pains). I was also able to provide vocal feedback as to the level of discomfort. This allowed the doctor to adjust the air pressure and scope location.

You need to let your doctor know in advance if you are going to refuse sedation. Some insist on it as this makes them take their time. Others like mine insist on the patient having an IV in the arm with a saline drip to keep the patient hydrated. In the event something goes wrong or you decide you need the sedation, the doctor can quickly have it administered. You may want to ask if the doctor is going to use a pediatric scope as they are a bit smaller and easier to navigate.
