i have had a REALLY bad dose of tonsillitis since sunday and i went to the doctors on monday. she gave me penicillin and ibuprofen. she said it will start to kick in after 48 hours but it hasn't at all. my glands are still swollen and my neck looks like i have swallowed two tennis balls. i haven't hardly slept all week. i have barely ate anything, my mam says i must of lost loads of weight. on wednesday it was 1.00am and i couldnt sleep so my dad rang the NHS to see why it's not getting any better but she just said you need to give time for the penicillin to kick in.
it's now been nearly a week and i'm seriously not any better :( i don't think i can take this pain much longer. should i maybe consider getting my tonsils took out or something? please help i feel like i'm dying :(

If it is tonsillitis, your throat will feel bad for a few weeks. However, with the penicillin, I would have thought you would feel better in yourself by now. I would go to NHS direct again and and get another doctor to come out to check things for you (assume you live in the UK & GP surgeries are closed at the weekend). It sounds awful. Hope you begin to get better soon.

It's very possible you were misdiagnosed or that it is resistant to penicillin.

You need to get a second opinion. I wouldn't mess around with this. Go to the emergency room or another doctor immediately.
