How long does the burning last after a Catheter is taken out?!

Question: How long does the burning last after a Catheter is taken out?
IT BURNS WHEN I PEE! It was the first time i had a catheter before and it was in there for 4 hours. It was extremely uncomfortable the whole time i had it in and now it burns when i pee. How many days, or hours will the burning last? and my doctor didn't give me any meds with it. should she have? I'm female by the way just in case that makes a difference.

Answers:

Its normal so dont stress, insertion of catheters can be very traumatic for the urethra and can cause damage during insertion and removal. What you need is a urinary alkaliser (eg. URAL in australia) like some females use for UTI's. It will reduce the acidity of the wee and ease the burning considerably. Ask your nurse (im assuming your in a hospital etc.) they should be able to get it for you. Or it should be available over the counter at the pharmacy. It should all heal in 1 to two days.. Oh and drink plenty of water it helps dilute and reduce acidity.. Good luck!

How long has it been since you had the Catheter? As far as your doctor giving you any meds this would depend on why you had to have a catheter.

I should not burn for more than the first couple of times you pee. Be thankful you are female, just imagine what it's like for us guys ;-(
