How come Midols barely work for me? Period Pain Help!!!!?!

Question: How come Midols barely work for me? Period Pain Help!!!!?
During the first day or two, I have to take painkillers on a schedule and on the hour because if I don't, its too late and I'm rolling on the floor in pain. Doesn't matter if I take aspirin days before, it still hurts.

I'm 21.

The extended relief Midols work for 3-4 hrs and that's it, which means I go over the max amount in a day.
Advil do not work, Tylenol stopped working, Excedrin doesn't work, Pamprin sucks, Ibuprofen sometimes work (sometimes I can't take because I have to eat them with food). I use to take 1500mg of meds every 6 hrs for 2 days; its a lot for a petite person like me.

How come Midol and other meds barely work!?!

Answers:

If you are having so much pain with your periods then you should see an OB-Gyn Doctor. There might be something going on inside your uterus. Many woman suffer from fibroid and they are quite painful. Sometimes putting you on the pill will help relieve your symptoms. Talk to your doctor about all your options. Often times.even some minor surgery can help your pain.

You need to take the right kind of medication for the kind of pain you're having.

Your period causes inflammation & pain: you need to take an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-Inflammatory drug).
These are Advil(ibuprofen), Tylenol (Acetominophen) and Naproxen (Aleve).
Of these, Advil and Aleve both work on inflammation too, while Tylenol doesn't.

That's partly the reason why Excedrin and Tylenol aren't helping: wrong drug for the task.

Perhaps you need to talk to your doc about a muscle relaxer in addition to the NSAIDs?
