You need to keep them stretched. When I was coaching cheer I stressed the importance of warming up and cooling down. you can use heat/ice or a muscle rub, take tylenol for pain but keep using those muscles - walking, jogging, light practice of your routines....

Believe it or not you need to lace up the shoes and get ready for a light exercise. I run 6 out of 7 days a week so you can imagine I get sore but there is a simple fix to help you over come this. A treadmill, elliptical or indoor bike will work too if its a bit cold out now. Anyways, start by walking, go 1/2-1 mile, then begin a slow jog, yes your legs may feel really sore right now by you need to push past this to get to the finish line and stop the soreness. Jog for about 1 mile and then slightly increase your pace to more of a run, by now your legs should be loosening up, obviously not completely but better than before, after a mile, go back to a jog pace for 1/2-1 and then back to walking for 1/2 to a mile. The greater the distance of each exercise the better. Once you finish you need to stretch like crazy. hold 30 seconds for each stretch. Then following the stretching hit the showers, the heat will help keep your legs loosened. Then I recommend taking ibuprofen and eating a meal high in carbohydrates. The best is pasta and or pizza. If your on a diet this a one time only meal so just do it if you want to heal up.

You can repeat this routine as much as you'd like the next few days as too keep yourself loose. I even recommend running a little before your try out to loosen up.

Best of luck

put icy hot on it or when taking a shower put it on high pressure on the sore thigh or calf and turn it on hot for 1 minute, turn it cold for the next minute. Repeat that process for about 5 minutes. This pushes out the lactic acid in your muscles that make your sore.
Also after practicing or working out stretch, so it reduces soreness.
