Why do they use different crutches in America?!

Question: Why do they use different crutches in America?
I've noticed that on American tv, they always have crutches that they rest in their arm pits but here in England we have ones that are a circle around the top of our elbows. Why is this?

Answers:

The crutches that go underneath the arm pits are much easier to use when you cant put any weight on a leg. If you just need support, crutches around the elbow or a cane are better for that.

Americans use crutches because when we break our foot or leg we cant put pressure on it so we use crutches for support and to act as a leg because we cant use the one that is broken.
