Find your local agent from Yellow page, and make a call to them, they should have good suggestions for you.

COBRA is a continuation of your current policy. The coverage is the same because nothing changes. They will charge up to an additional 2% for the admin fee. However, the employer will no longer be paying anything towards the policy so you'll have to start paying what the employer had previously paid. Unless you have major pre-existing conditions you need to check on getting your own policy, or at least a short term medical to tie you over until you receive new employment with new coverage. It will probably be much cheaper, especially if you are under 40.

Not everyone is eligible for COBRA. If you are, the insurance company will send you the information to sign up within 30 days of your termination. You will then have 63 days to decide if you want to accept the coverage.

>do I have to fill out any paperwork before I leave?

no, but you have to send back your COBRA election form after the health plan administrator sends it to you, after you lose your health insurance. Make sure your last know address with them is accurate since they only have to regular mail it.

> Is it more expensive?

In most cases since the employer is no longer subsidizing a large part of the premium on COBRA (they can deduct their contribution), it is VERY expensive. Most people in good health get their own plan, which is usually must cheaper, but sometimes with fewer benefits. Don't elect COBRA unless you have a serious expensive medical condition or your REALLY like the current plan and cannot convert the policy with your insurer.

>Does it provide the same coverage?

COBRA is continuation coverage, so whatever the active employees on the plan are offered, that is what you are entitled to. They could also offer you something better, if plan rules allow.
