Help! Ringing in ears?!

Question: Help! Ringing in ears?
To start off I feel like a right nob :-s I'm am 26 years of age with a husband, baby and one on the way and I am lying here at 2am worrying about my ears. My ears started ringing 2 months ago and haven't stopped since. It's better at times and worse at others :( I am scared of the worst and I went to one doctor he said I have inner ear fluid and another said they were clear and there wasn't enough wax. I am stumped and quite upset. Any wisdom? Simaler experiences?

Mrs J,

Congratulations on your pregnancy. These are exciting times I bet.

Regarding your ringing, it's best to figure out what's causing the ringing. Certain foods and drugs can cause the ringing. I've never heard of it being a side-effect of pregnancy, but it could be. It's also caused by loud noise exposure.

- I've suffered from ringing ears (tinnitus) for 13 years, so I understand what you're probably going through
- It was initially pretty rough for me. Anguish and fear and obsession about it getting worse. I found a guy in the UK who experienced the same thing as me, except he made video logs on Youtube. As he goes a long he is obviously depressed, but in his final video, he's quite happy and says he's doing much better with it. What helped me was finding things to do to keep my attention off of it. I rarely notice them any more. Try this: do you hear that buzzing sound your computer or monitor is making right now? I bet you weren't even aware of it until you read that last sentence. That's exactly what happens with tinnitus. You become trained to not hear it.

I built a website to help others newly experiencing it learn about it and experience relief and find a cure if possible. It is http://helptinnitus.weebly.com

Good luck, and I hope yours goes away soon.

Cheers,
John

The cause of ringing or other noise in the ear, called tinnitus often can't be determined. Tinnitus can result from almost any ear disorder, such as impacted earwax or infection. It can also be a symptom of anemia, cardiovascular disease, or Meniere's disease. Tinnitus is often associated with hearing loss.
Treating the underlying disorder, if on can be found, may stop the noise. If not, you can cover up the noise by playing back ground music or by using a tinnitus masker, which is worn like a hearing aid and makes a whining sound. Alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, and loud noises may aggravate tinnitus in some people.
I hope this helps you. And good luck.

You are hearing ringing in your ears, then you have tinnitus. Tinnitus can be a bothersome condition, and there are many things that could cause it. Make sure to avoid and eliminate the factors that trigger the reoccurrence of the problem. Temporary tinnitus usually goes away relatively quickly, if the ringing in your ear is persistent, you may consider seeing an ear specialist.

have some ringing too !! it's called Tinnitus (can check it on wikipedia) !! it's not a problem but major discomfort !

I understand u, me it is going more and more with time and I do worry 'cause I'm a bit death with some sounds and all .. and it can be the cause of it !!

I suggest that you ask your GP to have an appointement with a hearing specialist (franckly GP's are useless!) at least to get a full check up and for you to be rassured !! but basically it is just a phenomenon. Maybe it is a side effect of your prugnancy (never been pregnant so dunno) ...
