it is ok to swim on a fractured foot bone because I have been walking on it and !

Question: It is ok to swim on a fractured foot bone because I have been walking on it and it doesnt hurt?
it has already been 3 weeks and my foot is not hurting as it did three weeks ago. I heard that swimming is a good low impact workout that you can do to stay fit while im out for 6-8 weeks like my doctor said! My doctor tells me not to but i remember a friend who did it anyway and it didnt seem to bother him when he suffered a twisted ankle last year.

Answers:

NO its not ok, if you have a fracture it needs complete rest! it also should be in a cast if its fractured. Now.....if you have been walking around on this fracture for 3 weeks and now your stating it does not hurt that's probably because its healed, but it has probably healed/set in the wrong position possibly, and also there will be more inflammation and tissue damage than there would have been if you had rested it. We tell you to rest it for a reason not for fun i Promise you. It may cause you more problems in the future and when its cold and in the mornings!

A boot? all well and good but its the pressure from walking that will cause problems. that's why we ask you to rest it, not walk around, sorry its always your best interests that we tell you this.

Im an A&E nurse

theres only one way to find out :) but realy, take it easy, the water puts more strain on your foot than you might give it credit :)
