CRPS and Mortons Neuroma surgery?!

Question: CRPS and Mortons Neuroma surgery?
I had surgery last April ( 2010) for a Mortons Neuroma in my right foot between my 4th and 5th toe. The doctor said it was a fairly large neuroma. Immediately after surgery I developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I was unable to walk or move my foot. We caught it within the first 3 weeks of surgery, and I began seeing a neurologist. We treated the CRPS with a high dose of Prednisone for 4 months. My symptoms resolved fairly quickly ( within 8 weeks).
In November of last year I began to feel an old familiar pain. My toes would ache when I walked for long periods. Slowly but surely my neuroma pain has crept back in. It is now located just beyond my surgery scar, in the ball of my foot.
I am wondering if it is possible to have surgery again to remove the stump neuroma, or even if it is worth it. Will it grow back? What if I develop CRPS again after surgery? I feel as though the result will be the same, either way. Eventually - I will not be able to walk. Its a sad reality for someone that is in their early 30s, and heavily involved with horses. I train and show. Not to mention the burden I will place on my family. I have a husband and 3 young children. I do not want to be in constant pain. Does anyone have any WORTHWHILE advice?

Hi - I think the best thing to do is to go back to the neurologist who treated your CRPS originally, and see if he/she will work with your surgeon and anaesthetist should you decide to go ahead with removing the stump neuroma.

There are certainly techniques that can be used - even on areas currently affected by CRPS - to limit the risks of recurrence, flaring and spread. These include having nerve blocks (both regional and sympathetic) in place before, during and after the procedure, and having low dose ketamine immediately after the procedure.

I don't want to post the sites here in case they get spammed, but if you want to send me an email contact, I can give you a couple of good forum addresses. There are quite a few people there who've been through surgery on their 'CRaP' bits, who could probably tell you more about the methods their doctors/surgeons used.

Also please feel free to email me with any other questions and I'll see if I can answer them for you.

I've had CRPS for nearly 12 years - now have full-body involvement

In doing some studying into these types of pains there are so many of them that are just caused by tight tendons and/or muscles and they can be freed up to get rid of the pains. while they can be difficult to do it does get rid of the pains. The dr.'s go for what is in their books so they go and cut rather than working on what causes the problems and that's unfortunate.

have done tendon work.
