ANKLE CARTILAGE. DAMAGE??BONE GRAFT FROM ILIAC?!

Question: ANKLE CARTILAGE. DAMAGE??BONE GRAFT FROM ILIAC?
i had an accident 3 years ago and now, the latest ct and mri show osteonecrosis of the bone and maybe cartilage damage. The doctor said that he will get graft from the hip and place it on the dead area of the ankle bone, but if the cartilage is damaged will only be seen at the surgery, and then , next step is to get cartilage+bone from knee... Is there any way or ray that can show if the cartilage is rotten or not?if yes, has anyone done cartilage-bone graft harvest???

You can ask your doctor for a DXA scan or bone density test.
Good luck.
