Question: Why does it hurt so badly?

Yesterday morning I had my bottom right wisdom tooth removed. I had 5 needles and 4 stitches. The dentist told me that it was such a minor surgery that he didn't feel that I needed pain killers or antibiotics. When the numbness wore off it hurt so badly that I took 2 panadol, that didn't work, and then I took one of my boyfriends panadeine forte which worked miracles. I have been taking a mixture of panadeine forte and panadol every 6 hours since. Today my face around my right side jaw is so swollen it looks almost triple the size of my left side! Whenever the pain medication wears off i am in agony! I attempted to brush my teeth this afternoon and i couldn't open my mouth wide enough to do so. Is this normal after wisdom tooth extraction? I really couldn't say if the pain has gotten worse or not but it hurts like crazy.. How much longer should i expect to feel like this?? I also feel as if the inside of my cheek hurts more than where the tooth was why would this be?

I don't understand why your dentist didn't give you any pain killers? I have had my wisdom teeth pulled and got amoxicillin and vicodin. You are always supposed to get something for pain. I had gotten just a regular tooth pulled and I got Tylenol 3 for the pain. Your mouth will swell after having wisdom teeth pulled and, you need something for the pain. If I were you, I would call the dentist this morning and tell him/her that your in so much pain and if he can prescribe something for the pain. I don't understand why they didn't? Everyone that I know who's gotten their wisdom teeth pulled have gotten and antibiotic and pain meds. especially if they were impacted and had to be cut out. I sure hope that you get something for your pain. Good luck

Go back to that Dentist and tell him that you are going to report him. Anytime they do anything on a tooth other than a minor filling they give you antibiotics and pain killers.
