My daughter stepped on a nail?!

Question: My daughter stepped on a nail?
It lookoff a few layers of skin. It doesnt look deep but you can tell it scraped off a few layers. She just came home from a long weekend from grandmoms house so I started to treat it, I used peroxide, then put bacitration on it, a bandaid , then wrapped it up so the babdaid wouldnt come off. Today she is complaining of extreme burning and aching on the side of her foot. Do you think I should take her to the emergency room for a tetanus or just keep up what I started and give her ibuprophen. Please advise.

Answers:

Discontinue the peroxide. It won't do anything at this point other than irritate the tissue.

If she is experiencing burning and aching, it may already be infected (not with tetanus). A doctor can prescribe antibiotics that will fix an infection.

Give her ibuprofen now, and if she is bad tomorrow, take her to a doctor or an urgent care center.

If the wound is burning and her foot is aching that means it could be getting infected. Take her to the Emergency Room where they can treat her and give her a tetanus shot. Don't mess around and put your daughter at risk.

Yes, she at least needs a tetanus shot and it may be infected. I would have it looked at as soon as possible. Best wishes.
