How do you get crutches to not hurt your arms?!

Question: How do you get crutches to not hurt your arms?
I just got crutches because I hurt my ankle. Now, if you have had crutches before, you should know that they will bruise your arms. This hurts a lot! How do you stop this from happening?

I have been in crutches 15 different times or more. I have had 10 left ankle surgeries due to different things and all of the surgeries on my ankle I was non weight bearing for a month or more. Had 3 left knee surgeries and was on crutches for a month or more with non weight bearing and 1 right knee surgery with non weight bearing for a month or more also! Anyway, when I was on crutches the thing is if your height is 5'8 your crutches should be set at 5'7 and you should be able to put two fingers together like your middle and index finger and there should be 2 fingers space between your armpit and the crutch pad. And then your arms should be bent alittle bit and you should put all the weight on your hands of the crutches. Don't put all the weight on your armpits because if you do your going to have nerve damage and it's going to irritate your skin. So put your weight on your hands and it should help. Remember space between your armpit and crutch pad and then put weight on hands and you should be good! If that doesn't work then get like two of those thick sponges you can get them at a dollar store or any store. They are thick sponges for washing a car and tape them to the crutches and that will give you alittle extra padding. When I was on my crutches I only used them to go out to the store or something but if you have like a desk chair that has wheels you can put your bad leg on the chair like kneel on it and then use your good foot to push yourself it's kinda like your skateboarding but with a chair. I don't know how long you have to be on the crutches but if the Doctor said you have to be on them for a month or more they have these things called the roll-about or a crutch caddy it's kinda like a skateboard as well! Hope that helps!!
Good Luck!!!

i was on them for a month because i had ankle ligament reconstructive surgery and my arms killed! just put wash clothes on them and wear a hoodie or something. that's what i did and it worked very well.

be on crutches 5 times!

Put soft pads on the area where it's hitting your arms.

If it's at the right height and arm length, it shouldn't hurt
