My knees hurt when i walk?!

Question: My knees hurt when i walk?
it's not a serious pain, just a dull one. it sort of worsens after i exercise (again, not serious), but dulls again if i sit still for a while. its been going on for about 4 days. i just started taking dance class this year...could that have something to do with it? i'm only 12 (almost 13)...could it have something to do with the fact that i'm growing? my feet turn out about 15-20 degrees when i walk, could that be part of it? should i go to the doctor or just get knee braces?

Answers:

You should go see your doctor and describe the pain and exactly what it feels like and where you feel it. I had a similar problem when I was 8 years old and it ended up being Osgood-Schlatters Disease (it's not actually a disease it's just an overgrown bone in your knee) There's a link for you to read up on. I had that for years and they said once I'm fully grown the bone will be normal again (because the rest of my body will have caught up) Well I'm 18 now and last year my knees still hurt A LOT when I walked so I went to my specialist and got an MRI... Now because of the Osgood-Schlatters Disease, I have Pateller Tendonitis in both my knees (also a link for you).

Your knee pain could be from what you mentioned but I know of a lot of people with knee pain and it's the same thing that I had/have so you should definitely get it checked out.

I would go to an orthopedist who can tell you what is causing it.
