How long does it take for a sprained ankle to heal?!

Question: How long does it take for a sprained ankle to heal?
I kind of crushed my foot walking up the stairs at home a couple of weeks ago. I hit the edge of the step with the very centre of the base of my foot & continued walking on it once the initial pain went. Over the following 3 days it got to the point where it buckled under me if I placed any weight on it. I had it X-Rayed and they said there were no bones broken, just to let it heal. I assumed it's sprained?
I am on my second week of certified sick leave and it's still not right. How long will it take to heal? I am determined to go back to work on MOnday, this is driving me nuts! I am walking on it but am still limping badly, have to walk really slow and it hurts still. What am I doing wrong? Is it normal to take this long?

Answers:

it will if your walking on it, and not giving it a chance to heal, and you badly bruised the bottom of your foot, so ice it, for about 15 minutes, then apply heat for that amount of time, and use an ace bandage to keep it wrapped and it helps to absorb the shock of reinjurying the area with every step you take, until it heals, and try to walk with crutches for the most part until you can put pressure on it without the pain, but make sure you keep moving your foot around so that it doesn't become stiff, and a foot soap in epson salt water will help..and use water as warm as you can take it, and soak it until the water becomes cool at least every day, or every other day, and this will help heal the injury..and a foot injury is a hard place to heal, just because it carries are weight, and we have to walk right? so it will take as long as your do, to try to keep your weight off of it as much as possible, and still try to walk on it a little more every day, but as soon as you feel the pain coming back then it's a sign to let it rest again..k

I'm sure it will heal soon, the more you stress about it the longer it will take to heal, If you think it's not, then you will feel as if it's not. I give it a few days, a week at the most. If it's still problematic, then you should reconsult your Doctor.

Hi, most of the time people discuss about losing weight, the problem is they don't take action to solve it.I decided to stick to one solution with this great program, check out the link below. Good luck

It can take several weeks for an injury to heal; depends upon the extent of the tissue damage. Try crutches or a wheelchair.

sounds like a bad sprain get crutches they are a pain but the less weight you put on it the better it should heal faster if your not putting any weight on it aswell

me XxXxX

Injuries to the base of the foot heal very slowly...it could be weeks...get some crutches.

one week.

It will take quite a bit of time (weeks) for it to heal. Be careful above all. Problem is, your ankle will never be as strong as it once was. It will fold under you when walking down the street, or across any uneven ground.
One thing that can be done, is wait until you sprain your ankle again and have a doctor cast it up for a couple of weeks. That will give the tendons and muscles a chance to heal without walking on them. That could bring it back to its original strength.

Until that time, be careful.
