Why does my tailbone suddenly hurt really badly?!?!

Question: Why does my tailbone suddenly hurt really badly?!?
On Monday morning, I woke up and my tailbone was just randomly hurting. It wasn't that bad while I was walking, but then I sat down and it hurt SO bad! I could hardly even sit! I have to shift my weight constantly while I'm sitting. And when I get up, it hurts even worse (I guess because of the sudden change in pressure). It's not bruised, it doesn't hurt when I press on it, and I didn't even fall or sleep on a hard surface or anything! I'm 15, if that helps at all. And it does help a little if I arch my back while I'm sitting, but then my back muscles hurt if I do that too long!

My dad said if it's still is bothering me in a couple days, he'd take me to the doctor. But I'd feel bad going if there wasn't even anything wrong. What would cause it to randomly start hurting THAT badly??

Thanks in advance! :)

STRESS OR STRAIN

It just sounds like you have coccydemia which means inflammation of the tailbone. The pain increases due to stress. As the muscles in your gluteus maximus (butt) tighten, it pulls on the tailbone so stress is nasty.

It can actually pull the tailbone out of joint. You would need a referrel to an orthorpaedic surgeon who will stick his finger up your anus (bum) and readjust the tailbone. He is also able to inject cortisone in the tailbone joint to INCREASE HEALING TIME in the inflammation.

Try taking anti inflammatories to bring down the swelling regularly 4x day for a week to see if the pain decreases. When you shift in seating, lift your cheek bum up and do the switch as rolling will cause a knee jerk reaction.

You can see videos about what coccydynia is from the Spine Health website, and how to decide whether you have tailbone pain and how to describe your tailbone pain to your doctor, from Dr Patrick Foye, www. tailbonedoctor.com.

Here's some more information on medications and/or remedies that may ease your pain:

1. I used to use a combination of medications which included 400mg Ibuprofen 4x a day with food. This takes the swelling and inflammation down. DO NOT exceed1600mg in one day and you may need prilosec for stomach protection as ALL ANTI INFLAMMATORIES are difficult on the stomach. ***You can use Tylenol with Ibuprofen and Aspirin watch for daily maximums & don't exceed.

2. Robaxacet is Tylenol (acetominophen) combined with methocarbonal (muscle relaxant)...this also comes with codeine on request from the pharmacist. This only relaxes any tight muscles around the pain and helps reduce some pain. You can use Robaxacet with Ibuprofen and Aspirin, BUT NOT Tylenol as it's already an ingredient in this pill.

3. Robaxacyl is Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) combines with methocarbonal (muscle relaxant)...this has a blood thinning active ingredient and isn't ideal for anyone under age 16 years or complications with blood pressure, ailments, etc. This both takes down the inflammation as well as treats the pain. You can use Robaxacyl with Ibuprofen and Tylenol, BUT NOT Aspirin as it's already an ingredient in this pill.

4. Aleve is a Nonsteroidal Anti Inflammatory (Naproxen) which will helps reduce the inflammation, and as the inflammation decreases so does the pain; BUT you CANNOT mix this drug with any of the above mentioned safely.

5. Dynamint has been used on horses legs for years, but it does an amazing It's ingredients are Peppermint Oil, Eucalyptus Oil , Tea Tree Oil and Calendula Oil.

6. Deep Cold Gold is an alternative rub that works very well on tight aching tendons on your lower back, buttocks and tailbone, BUT DO NOT get this in the fleshy area past your anus or you will have an irrtation/rash/burn.
