Downsides of slitting wrists?!

I used to cut too. There are more downsides than there are upsides to cutting yourself which are long term and can effect the rest of your life. For one thing you can be left with permantent scars that are in plain site for anyone, including employers, can see. Also, there are main arteries in your wrists that if you cut into you will bleed to death. When cutting, there are endorphins released when you are in a depressed state it will still be painful but will kind of comfort you and make it seem like the other problems have gone away. It is a mental state. However, it can be addicting like a drug your friends may start out doing it just when they "need" it but they will eventually be tempted to do it more and more often and that can be very dangerous.
When quitting cutting i resorted to Snapping my wrists with rubber bands when i felt the urge to so maybe they could try that.
I hope your friends are doing okay.You should tell them to talk to someone about there problems or try something else to make them feel better.

A: a ton of downsides. Slitting your wrist is very very damaging someone on here already said nerve damage and yes that is right. I'm sure a permanent poor circulation problem may occur resulting in a loss of the limb. Best case scenerio is If you do have damage is the appendage will have very limited movement it will most likely become arthritic. If you have even a slight sugar problem now or even later in life you could even have to have it amputated. So here is another Question. Why would they be doing this? You don't have to answer that It's kinda for you. And I know u say that it ISN'T you, but as a disclaimer please don't. I don't mean any harm by that or accusing you but I laid it out there. A quick idea or damaging oneself can lead to very long-term and permanent consequences. All the best wishes and i do genuinely hope this helps in some way :).

The only upside is that they'll offend their parents and get some attention for five to ten minutes. Everything else about it sucks. They'll have hideous scars that will prevent them from ever getting a decent job. They could easily mess up their nerves or tendons, and after their parents shell out tens of thousands of dollars for surgery and painful physical therapy their hands might still basically be worthless. They could get an infection with disgusting abscesses and gangrene. And they could be locked away in a psych ward for a while and have to eat hospital food and wipe with TP that's rougher than 20-grit sandpaper.

Tell them to listen to some Converge and get over themselves.

Slitting your wrist can cause death. You'll get a lot of sympathy, I'm sure, but you won't be around to enjoy it. By the way, if you can slit both wrists you have a very high pain threshold and you're good at holding sharp objects between your knees. Don't do it.
