Hi

You are obviously not informed about this at all. When you get sectioned you have a choice - firstly no-one can section you unless you disagree that you could be hospitalised. A group of people will come to visit you, say like your GP, a Social Worker and your Psychiatrist, but this could vary to your Psychiatric Nurse or whatever. Anyway, they will assess you and depending on the answers you give to their questions they will agree whether or not you can be sectioned. However, you are given the choice to go into hospital on a voluntary basis. You can choose to go into hospital, which means that you will have much more say in the matter. For instance, you will be allowed to leave the hospital for shopping trips or local walks. You can take you straighteners with you whether you are sectioned or not, but they will have to be checked first that they are working properly and would not cause a fire risk. This would happen even if you were going into any hospital for any reason, it is just health and safety regulations for any hospital admission. Just like if you wanted to take your tv or radio.

If you do get assessed, I would strongly advise you to go into hospital voluntary, as this will give you more choice, and will stand you in good stead of any future admissions. If you co-operate with an inpatient admission, you cannot be sectioned. However, just think of the benefits going into hospital for yourself. You will be treated for your illness, you will have expert care and if you go voluntarily your mum will be so pleased you have agreed to do this. It will give her more hope for you. I am a mother of a son who had to be sectioned when he was just 15 years old. He would not agree voluntarily to go to hospital, and he was sectioned. It was not my choice. I want you to know that it is not your mother who is sectioning you, she has no power to do that at all. It is the doctors and social workers who attend your section assessment who have the power to do this. So you need to negotiate with them. I am sure your hair straighteners will not be an issue, and you can take them with you, and get them approved on the ward by the electrician there.

If you are sectioned, they will send the Police, and ambulance, so if I were you, just ASK to go into hospital before all this occurs. It will be less stressful for you and much better for your family. Getting sectioned is a very traumatic experience, and if you do get sectioned and there is no place in your area right away for a place in hospital, you can be sent miles away. Much better to agree to be hospitalised. You have the choice, just remember that. Contact your doctor and ask. You have the power to do this and it will empower you in the future too. God bless you and I hope you will agree to go into hospital voluntary. I hope this works well for you. Best wishes.
