What happens if your skin under a fingernail bruises?!

Question: What happens if your skin under a fingernail bruises?
Today at school we were playing basketball and the ball came down on my finger hard. Then, a few minutes after, the skin under the nail is bruised and my thumb is a little swollen, and it hurts to touch. My friend said that if it is like that, then the nail will fall off and you will need a needle or something to take it out. Is this true???

Answers:

that dosnt nescasarily mean the nail will fall off.in some situations, when a nail falls off, a symptom is bruised skin.but as long as your nail isnt hanging off or somethng, you should be good.ice it alot, and then a little heat to make is comfortable.if it hurts to bend it, wear a finger splint for a few days till its a little bit better.dnt listen to your friend-is he a doctor?no.he was probly just trying to scare you & being dramatic.your lucky-i broke my leg!...feel better!

Either it will heal eventually and you will be fine or the nail will start to pull away from the skin around it and eventually fall off (if it is really bad) but i dont know what he is talking about with the whole needle thing. You will be fine.

Nothing, Really.
It Hurts Like Hell For A Bit, Then You Forget About It.
It Might Not Fade Completely For A Couple Of Weeks/Months, But It Usually Only Lasts For A Few Days. (:

Yes you're friend is right
