I am dehydrated (for medical reasons) and need to drink water. What can I add to!

Question: I am dehydrated (for medical reasons) and need to drink water. What can I add to the water?
I usually drink homemade lemonade: I add a little lemon juice and sugar to plain water. I can drink this by the gallon, it is very light but still tasty. Is the sugar or the lemon juice a detractor to the water as far as making it work to hydrate me? I know soda pop is dehydrating, I don't drink any. Do I really have to drink straight water, which I really dislike, even bottled water or distilled water (which I can't afford anyway)? What can I safely add to water to flavor it without detracting from its hydrating qualities?

Answers:

salt is deadly, so don't listen to that... Sugar can be part of the dehydration issue. Try just adding the lemon... Use a little more lemon flavoring if you must, but try to ease off of the sugar.

I know what you mean though about plain water though - haven't had any myself in a couple of years. Been drinking juices and sodas (diet) since. I hate no flavor.

Once in a while, I'll drink bottled water if I have some Crystal Light packets... I'll dump one in the water to make it more juice-like.... Helps a lot since there's no sugar, no carbs and only 5 calories - or something like that.

You can drink water mixed with lemon juice and honey. It really tastes great plus the honey aids in the absorption of water and ions lost during dehydration and its also a great source of glucose and energy.

A dash of juice, but not much.

Also, drink warmed up broth sometimes.

Also a banana snack and a glass of nice cold refrigerated water

The sugar in your lemonade is inflammatory and dehydrating

dont suggest adding it to the water, i think kevin was misinterpreted, but adding salt to your diet will help you hydrate, also potassium ie. bananas etc.
