Can anyone suggest any successful solutions for preventing and or treating cramp!

Question: Can anyone suggest any successful solutions for preventing and or treating cramp?
Answers:

Drink at least 2 additional litres of water daily. Another which is considered to work is to drink some Tonic Water daily as this contains quinine. To treat cramp you should stretch the cramped muscle and hold it stretched.
I suffered with cramp for many years especially after playing rugby and climbing ladders daily in the course of my work. Since drinking more water I hardly ever get it. A friend also swears on the tonic water system.

for preventing cramp or bloating, and i'd know because i researcched this super deeply because of school and i got really into it. I researched that if you have alot of calcium as in drinking milk or having cheese it helps with cramps and bloating, and you'll feel SO much better if you drink warm liquids and aloot of liquids the warmth helps the blood in ur lower stomach soften and sort of like come out fluidly instead of being all jammed and kinda frozen in one place which causes the cramping i think so yea good luck (:

Drink six to eight glasses of water daily. Doing so will help prevent dehydration, which may play a role in the cramping.
Stretch calves regularly throughout the day and at night.
Ride a stationary bicycle for a few minutes before bedtime. This activity can help prevent cramps from developing during the night, especially if you do not get a lot of exercise during the day.
Keep blankets loose at the foot of the bed to prevent your toes and feet from pointing downward while you sleep.
Do aquatic therapy regularly during the week to help stretch and condition your muscles.
Wear proper foot gear.

Prevention, maybe not, however when I get menstrual cramps I usually take over the counter naproxen if i can't relieve it without medicine. It works the best for me. Make sure before you take any medicine or herbal touted for relief that you consult with a doctor or pharmacist to make sure there isn't a problem with trying the medication. I always prefer to try non-medicinal ways to help with the discomfort first. Things I have tried: Heating pads, exercise, warm liquids, massages (back and tummy). Heating pads are good for a little while, the pain comes back once the heat is turned off. (never fall asleep with a heating pad though..could cause burns). Drinking warm liquids doesn't seem to work for me, but others swear by it. Tummy and back massages make me feel better, however they are mighty inconvenient during work (school) hours. Exercise has been the most effective and long lasting treatment for cramps for me. Exercise can cause endorphins to be released in the body which acts like a natural pain killer. I hope any of these suggestions are helpful. :)

I used to suffer with leg cramps in bed and found out that a defficiency in Magnesium could be one reason, i bought some magnesium tablets and i haven't had leg cramps in bed since, that was a couple of years ago now, of course as some of your other answer say, exercise and water intake are neccessary as well.
