your dad is most probably suffering from stomach bleeding / Lung affection. if first there is coughing then fresh blood, its most probably the lungs, if first there is dark blood vomiting then coughing blood + stomach ache, abdomen pain, digestion problems and blood in stool, its more likely to be a stomach related bleeding. in both cases he seriously needs to see a Dr and maybe needs to be hospitalized for close monitoring of circulation, breathing and etc.

Your father needs to get to a doctor or emergency room. Coughing up blood is definitely not good. he may have a bleeding ulcer.
i would certainly get hime to the doctor as soon as possible old blood shows that its been there a while and new blood shows that whatever is bleeding is still bleeding
