cracking, stiff and painful big-toe?!

Question: Cracking, stiff and painful big-toe?
Well, I noticed that my left big toe was cracking very much when I moved it. If I bent it down and then up it cracked, sometimes 5-10 times in a row loudly. If I grabbed it with my hands and bent it towards me it also made a small crack sometimes.

It was(and is) also very stiff comparing to my right big-toe.

Now it has become much worse. It's stiffer but there is not so much cracking now.
I can bend my hurt/left big toe 45 degrees, and my healthy toe/right 90 degrees upwards, same downwards. Plus that it hurts when I bend my hurt/left toe(using my hands) when it has reached its limit to where you can't bend it anymore. It doesn't hurt in my healthy toe when I do that.

When I touch the base joint on the upper side of the big-toe(NOT the side of the foot palm) and press on it(with just a little force) it hurts.

Answers:

You could actually have arthritis in that joint. It is called hallux rigidus. Ice packs, or alternating hot and cold packs, are often recommended to reduce inflammation. Read about it here.
