Help, I'm in serious pain?!

Question: Help, I'm in serious pain?
I was just on Facebook doing nothing in particular. I reached for a tissue on a higher shelf to spit out my gum and suddenly the muscles in my back just exploded with a sharp pain. I was lifting light weights the other day. The pain isn't going away whatsoever. What should I do? put ice on it? or heat?

Answers:

Don't use ice as it slows down your recovery rate or stops it. Use nothing but a warm compress if it is needed at all. Try these movements to see it they stop the problem altogether. Sit in a chair and raise your left arm above your head as high as you can. Note the height achieved and then rest the arm. Now do your right arm. You are going to find that one arm went up higher than the other so start with that arm. Raise that arm above your head as hard and high as possible for 30 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. Repeat that cycle twice more and then do the opposite arm exactly the same way 3 times. Next, turn the head to the left as far as you can noting the endpoint of rotation then do the same to the right. Again start in the direction that rotated furthest. Turn the head in that direction as hard and far as you can for 30 seconds and then rest it for 15 seconds. Repeat this twice more and then do the same cycle of 3 in the opposite direction. Lastly, twist the body as far as you can to the left noting the endpoint then do the same to the right. Start in the direction that went the furthest. Twist in that direction as hard and far as you can for 30 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. Repeat this twice more and then do the same 3 movements in the opposite direction. Get up and move around. There should be less pain and more mobility. Do these movements at least twice a day and it should clear up.

There is a story in the Journal of Emergency Medicine Services (JEMS).

It was just like you are describing; an auto accident.

The elderly gentleman driving said he was okay, but suffered neck pain the next day. Three days later, he consulted his Doctor, took X-rays, and discovered the second vertebrae was fractured.
This is the vertebrae that regulates your breathing--both manually and automatically.
Then deny the claim based on their double-standards.
One turn of his head the wrong way, and he would have been paralyzed from the neck down and suffocating to death.

Get it checked out by at least a paramedic.

NOTE: never leave an accident unreported by the police. Insurance agents are famous for not honoring claims not report in such a manner.

NEVER BUY PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE, btw. They issue the customer the wrong insurance (as heard on their own phone recordings), and then tell you it is YOUR fault! (As if YOU are supposed to be the licensed member of the transaction.)

Ice for the first 48 hours after injury then start alternating ice and heat but it sounds like you just pulled a muscle in your back it can happen so easily so if you don't feel any improvement I'd go to a massage therapist they work very well and only take 2-3 trips before your all healed up

Hurt my back in gym and got it fixed

Sounds like a muscle spasm - you probably overdid things yesterday. Use ICE only and try lying flat on your back on the floor with a pillow under your knees. If it hasn't settled by tomorrow morning then do go and see your doctor.

Your muscle is probably in spasms.......so try ice first, if that doesn't help then do heat. Rest it for several days before lifting weights again and when you do lift lighter first and then go heavier.......

Ice will probably help. More than likely it sounds lot you just strained your muscles. Just give it a day or so to rest. It'll heal soon.
