How do I make sure my cut stops bleeding?!

Question: How do I make sure my cut stops bleeding?
Yesterday I cut my finger vertically with a cheese grater. I couldn't get it to stop bleeding so I just put a bandage on it and it eventually stopped. I took off my bandage to change it about 3 hours later. It started to bleed again so I just put another bandage and it stopped, but quite some blood filled the bandage. Anyway what should I do? I don't want to go the hospital. How long should I wait to take off the bandage and what should I do to stop it bleeding.

Answers:

Direct pressure on the wound is best to keep it from bleeding so much. Covering with a band aid is essential in keeping bacteria out. But, you need to use an antibiotic ointment that can help prevent an infection in the first place. Use the ointment an cover with a new band aid at least twice a day until the finger gets better. If the cut is very deep, then you should go to a doctor for stitches.

Putting a bandage on is good, however, you're more likely to stop bleeding if the wound is left in open air as it will dry faster. Your body will form a scab naturally unless you have haemophilia so you may just have to be patient, keep it clean and maybe gently dab it dry now and then but try and keep it in the open for aslong as possible. hope this helps
