Question: I have a blood test on Wednesday, and I am so nervous. Any advice? (Look @ details)?
I'm not that scared of needles, I can watch medical dramas with loads of needles and I'm fine with them. I've had a local anaesthetic and sedation and I was fine, but I am terrified about the blood test. I am mostly nervous in case I faint from it, since I've been feeling dizzy anyway without doing anything.

How can I overcome my sudden fear, and how can I make sure I don't faint?

Answers:

Don't look at the needle. Think about a story you're working on, the book you're reading, the song that's stuck in your head, what you're going to treat yourself to on the way home...

I'm not looking forward to giving a blood test as well :( I have one coming up in the next few months, although I'm not certain when. It's to see if I have a case of active juvenile arthritis or...something. And I'm weird...I can't watch needles being given on television (literally--I close my eyes and plug my ears shut) but I am vaccinated and everything all the time at school and all. And I don't care--I can even watch it. (It's mostly because I enjoy the Popsicles they hand out afterward. LOL.)

Haha. Well, don't think about the needle, and don't worry about it until the time comes! Keep your head in the present, BN. And when the time does come, keep your mind on something else, and remember...it'll be over before you know it.

Tell the technician how you're feeling. They can do it with you laying down just in case. Try closing your eyes and just talk to them or relax and think of someplace you would love to be. Like a beach or something.

Medical assistant.

experiance

There is nothing to worry about, the blood is a fairly easy topic and there is not a lot to revise. Just look over your cells and your components of the blood and you'll be fine. Good luck

Talk to the person drawing the blood. Maybe they will let you lie down instead of sitting up while they do it. Be sure to be well hydrated before you go.

I have never looked at the syringe when they withdraw my bloods. Things get better when you grow older.

Do not look at the needle, and remember to breathe!

I definitely know where you're coming from. I have low thyroid so I've had my blood drawn every six months since I was eight. I used to be positively terrified of getting it done, though it doesn't bother me anymore. Getting your blood drawn shouldn't make you get dizzy or faint. They don't take nearly enough for that to happen. My advice is to breathe deep and try to relax while they do it. Remember that you only feel the needle when they put it in. It's a quick little pinch, and then if you hold still, you won't feel it again, even when they take it out. Don't look at the needle until it's out. Getting your blood drawn is so much easier than getting a flu shot. It's quick and practically painless, and it doesn't make your muscles sore afterwards. You really don't have anything to worry about. Just try to keep your mind elsewhere and it'll be over before you know it :D

I have low thyroid and therefore have experience with this sort of thing.

***** ill slap you if you give me a pointless question like that, you better not think about **** you pussy.
