Ankle Hard wear removal?!

Question: Ankle Hard wear removal?
I broke my ankle 2 years ago August.. They placed one plate and 6 screws on the outer side, and two long screws on the inner side.. On February 2nd I had all the hard wear removed due to all the pain they hard wear was giving me.. Well I am a month post op and still having pain, even to lightly touch the ankle hurts so bad!!
Anybody been through this that can tell me if this is normal or if I need to once again call the surgeon.. I just want this to feel better finally!!!!

Momto5, well if it has only been a few weeks since the hardware was removed then it most likely will take some more time. Have you been sent to physical therapy? If not it might be a wise move to start. One thing that you can try at home is to desensitize the area. To do this try these things. Get different types of materials such as silk, terry, cotton, and other types of cloths of varying degrees of roughness. Start off by just laying the different cloths on the skin. If they are tolerated start to rub them on the skin. With time you should be able to start rubbing them vigorously. This will help to cut down on the pain. Another technique is to tab the area where the hardware was. Take your fingers and start to gently tap along the incision line and expand that area to include a larger area. The tapping should increase in intensity. With time the body will shut off its response to the pain. Now if these techniques don't help then I would suggest either going back to the same surgeon or to someone out of your area. Doctors are very reluctant to speak ill of another doctor in the same area. If something was missed it might be picked up by another doctor.

You should already be scheduled for a 1 month post op appt. w/ the surgeon. If not you need to call their office and schedule one. Discuss with the doctor when you can start physical therapy.
