HELP?!? Terrified of needles and bloodwork?!

Question: HELP?!? Terrified of needles and bloodwork?
No mean comments please!
I have to get a tdap 7th grade booster shot and bloodwork tomorrow and I am TERRIFIED of all types of needles. Is there anything I can do to be less nervous? Anything to help it hurt less? Please help, this is my worst fear I haven't had to get shots for 10 years.....

Answers:

I know how you feel, I had to get blood taken today.

What helps me is remembering that panicking makes it worse. It closes up your veins, making it a lot more painful. Big deep breaths, clinging on to my mum and not looking... I also sometimes distract myself by playing Pokemon. You could try reading something? I also find asking them to "surprise" you helps, when they say "right, sharp scratch now" I freak out badly.

Well considering you haven't had a shot in 10 years you'll probably be making it so much worse in your head imagining some 10ft needle stabbing you in the arm, but it's not like that just try not to look at it and think of something nice, the nurse will be used to having people like you and if you tell her she might come up with some techniques to relax you. Good luck and remember its much better in the long run :)

Right listen to me and listen goood, I am a 13 year old girl and im in year 9 right and last year I almost passed out because I had to have a cervical cancer jab.. all my life I've been petrified of needles absolutley hated them. (except ears pierced) anyways I had this massive situation in my head and i was proper scared like crying and shaking scared :/ here is my tip when you go in tomorow dont get worked up becuase now 2 months later I have overcome this fear because It feels like a minor nettle sting :):) hardly hurts at all I swear down
Hope it all goes okay

First off, don't worry! the more you think about it the worse you feel. Just be confident.. It's been 10 years who knows maybe you won't be as scared. Wish you luck!
