Nights and days turned around...?
Why do many patients in hospitals get their nights and days turned around. They are so sleepy durning daylight from not sleeping thru out the night. They can't help it, they are not sleepy at all. Do you think possibly a fear they may pass away in sleep if they fall asleep? Please advise your thoughts.

It is quite noisy in the hospital at night. If you are used to quiet and are a light sleeper this could be part of the problem.If you are on medication that requires a 24 hour schedule, you may be woken up during your natural sleep period. These two things will interupt your natural sleep pattern. Your internal clock will be changed-thinking you sleep when there is no interruptions-during the afternoon, maybe.
