Question:

Cataracts : Easy operation ??

I'm 46 and amongst many other health problems, i have just found out i have cataracts in both eyes and I'm going to need an operation on them both, I'm sooo scared, its it a big job ?.

Anyone there kind enough to put my mind at ease and maybe send me a hug ??.

Answers:

My husband is an optometrist and I am a licensed optician. I see lots of people before and after they go for their surgery, and they all say "it wasn't nearly as bad as I though it would be."

There isn't much discomfort afterward, and the outcomes are generally fantastic! Very few cataract surgeries go badly. Some patients end up with inter ocular lenses (IOL) that replace the natural lens that actually allow them to see better than they did before they ever developed cataracts.

Your surgeon may offer you monovision (one eye sees at distance, and the other at near). Not everyone like this. You might want to ask if you can try it with disposable contacts first. Personally, I would have both eyes done for distance and put on reading glasses if needed.

Oh, and I almost forgot....Here's your{{{{{ hug }}}}}
