Why cant rest be just as ok as sleep..?!


Question:

Why cant rest be just as ok as sleep..?

What makes us sleep even if we dont do anything but lay around all day? what actions do sleeping do that resting doesn't?


Answers:

Resting does not allow your body to go into the REM stage of sleep, which is the repairitive stage. It helps metabolism and cellular function. Lack of adequate sleep can cause excessive build ups of lactic acid in your muscles and enzymes, causing fatigue, muscle and joint pain. Lack of sleep can also cause mental fatigue, lowered metabolism, depression, lowered bone density, immune supression,etc. There have been strong links between sleep deprivation and fibromyalgia as well as CFT.
