Really bad hip pain?!

Question:

Really bad hip pain?

I have a battery implanted in my hip (for a spinal cord stimulator) and I've lost a lot of weight in the past few months, and now my hip is very painful where my battery is located. I can't lay on my side on it or anything...I've tried ice, and staying of of it, but it's so painful. It has bothered me since my last surgery, and my doctor told me that it may be placed on a nerve which is causing so much pain. I may be having surgery to to another revision on my Spinal Cord stimulator so I would have the battery moved, but what can I do until then to make the pain better? I have been trying to ice it, take ibprofen, and stay off of it. I'm 14.

Answers:

I can kind of understand what you're dealing with, I have a congenital dislocated hip and I've had four operations to deal with it. I now have sever arthritis and I have to use crutches so that my legs don't collapse from under me. There are two things that I would ask my parents and my doctor.I would ask him to give you a prescription strenght medication something like naprosyn it's the medicine in aleve but I take 500 Mg's in the morning and again at night it keeps the pain away. I would ask my doctor if you could use a cane or crutches until the next operation to help keep some of the weight off of that hip. As for lying on it try using a donut pillow you can place the hole where the pain is and you won't really be laying on the hip the pillow will keep it off the bed. I used one after I came out of the cast when the incisions still hurt. Talk to your parents and get them to make sure that you get some thing for the pain something like the prescribing strentgh of aleve. IF they are afraid that you'd become addicted it's not something that you can be come addicted to.
