Excessive sweating?!

Question:

Excessive sweating?

I don't know what it is, but even when I'm sitting in school (which is air conditioned) I sweat. I actually sweat through a hooded sweatshirt once. What can I do to control this? It will emotionally hurt me if anyone ever finds out.

I think you might have Hyperhidrosis a medical condition in which a person sweats excessively and unpredictably. People with hyperhidrosis can sweat even when the temperature is cool, and when they are at rest.

There are two form of Hyperhidrosis - Primary (unknown cause) & Secondary (known cause)

Primary is a far more frequent condition than Secondary Hyperhidrosis and appears, generally, localized in one or several locations of the body (most often hands, feet, armpits or a combination of them). It usually starts during childhood or adolescence and persists all life. Nervousness and anxiety can elicit or aggravate sweating, but psychological disturbances are only rarely the cause of the disorder.

If the sweating occurs as a result of another medical condition, it is called Secondary Hyperhidrosis. The sweating may be all over the body, or it may be in one area. Conditions that cause Secondary Hyperhidrosis include: Acromegaly, Anxiety conditions, Cancer, Carcinoid syndrome, Certain medications and substances of abuse,
Glucose control disorders, Heart disease, Hyperthyroidism,
Lung disease, Menopause, Parkinson’s disease, Pheochromocytoma, Spinal cord injury, Stroke,
Tuberculosis or other infections.

If you have Secondary Hyperhidrosis, once you treated the underlying condition, the excessive sweating should be gone.
But if yoy have Primary Hyperhidrosis, as I mention before since the cause is unknow, it's currently untreateable. There are some methods (Antiperspirants, Iontophoresis, Drugs,
Botulinum Toxin, Surgery) have been adopted to help contorl the problem.

My suggestion to you is visit a Doctor who specialize is this field, he/she will perform different test such as:

Starch-iodine test. An iodine solution is applied to the sweaty area. After it dries, starch is sprinkled on the area. The starch-iodine combination turns a dark blue color wherever there is excess sweat.

Paper test. Special paper is placed on the affected area to absorb the sweat, then weighed. The heavier it weight, the more sweat has accumulated.

Try to have the fellowing info ready for the doctor:

Location
Is it on face, palms, or armpits?
Is it all over the body?

Time pattern
Does it occur at night?
Did it begin suddenly?
How long have you had it?

Triggers
Does it occur in response to reminders of a traumatic event?
What other symptoms are present (for example, weight loss, a pounding heartbeat, lack of appetite)?
Are the hands cold and clammy?
Is there a fever?

The more occourance info you can provode, the easlier for the doctor to determent if it Primary/Secondary.
