Drug temptations?!

Question:

Drug temptations?

im really really worried about my friend. he is 16 and goes to his older brothers apartment almost every weekend. everyone there is always smoking pot, doing drugs, and drinking. theres a guy there who always tries to make him smoke and my friend says its really tempting. my friend just told me that last time he went there, the guy offered him cocaine and he wasnt tempted at first but the guy told him "you cant get addicted to any drug as long as you do it drunk" which is bulls#it. thank GOD he didnt do it though. im really worried that after a while he will be way too tempted and try it and become addiced. what can i do to help him?

You know, there's a saying in recovery that if you hang around outside a barber shop long enough, that you're bound to get a haircut. Your friend is in a dangerous position. I fear that he's dancing on the edge ready to fall off. I also am afraid that your friend might already be doing drugs. Denial and lies are very common in active addiction. Unfortunately, there is little you can do to help him unless and until he is ready to help himself. Then you can be supportive, but not before. Or else, you can be emotionally enabling him. I like the suggestion mentioned in one of the answers to tell his parents. He might get ticked off and you might even lose a friend temporarily, but this is his very life that is at stake here. And I have lost many a friend who either died or ended up in prison due to their addiction.
