I've Been Taking Sleeping Pills?!

Question:

I've Been Taking Sleeping Pills?

....for the past 2 nights so far (2 tabs a night of Sominex) b.c I could not sleep for about 4 nights in a row. I haven't had my period last month & I'm NOT sexually active so I know its not pregnancy. I don't know if a lack of menstrual cycle could be part of my restless nights. I also am worrying alot about college & the loan I should be recieving quite soon... I'm a nervous reck about that...

I usually go to bed @ 10-11pm & wake up @ 8-9am. NOW I have to force myself to sleep @ 12pm just laying there restlessly until I finally doze off @ 2am! THEN I wake up at 11-12am. I hate that. I might be getting enough sleep, but it messes up my schedule alil.

Is it ok to take sleeping pills regularly? for months?

Answers:

What you are taking is nothing more than an antihistamine labled for sleep. These are fine to take as they are the meds you use for allergies. The side effect is they can cause drowsiness hence they market them for sleep. You need to try warm milk at bedtime and a nice relaxing soak in the tub with all the lights out and just candle light. Also read or do non stimulating activities before bed and be sure your bedroom is used for sleep only unless you have to use it for other things. You are anxious so it is normal to have sleep disturbances. If it becomes a real problem see your doc about meds for anti-anxiety.
