First aid kit, how much should i spend on one?!

Question:

First aid kit, how much should i spend on one?

i'm a nurse and so i want to have a first aid kit in my car for emergencies, i would hate to be in a situation where i knew how to help someone and didn't have the right equipment or dressings or whatever. i quickly went through an internet store and picked out $500 (Australian dollars) worth of stuff - and that was holding back!

this wasn't a first aid kit (pre-made), those come with three gloves, two pieces of gauze and an old bandaid - waste of time usually. this $500 bought all the stuff i would put in it and would make a proper/useful kit. i'm talking burnaid+burns dressings, good scissors, face mask for resus, splinter removers, instant cold packs, combine, dressing packs, jelonet, opsite, hypafix, triangle bandages, analgesia, antihistamines and antacids. i wasn't being ripped off

Answers:

spend what you can afford.
No one expects you to go broke trying to be a good Samaritan.
buy as much as you can afford at first, then add on as needed each month.
