Flying after gallbladder operation?!

Question: Flying after gallbladder operation?
Ive got gallstones and im going in for an operation to get my gallbladder removed. Ive got family in england and ive been told by them that i can go there to recover after the operation if i want. Will i be ok to fly, i stay in glasgow and flight takes just over an hour.

Answers:

I would wait 48 hrs after the surgery before flying. But most definitely ask that question to your surgeon. There are a couple factors to consider. it takes at least 24 hrs after surgery for the anesthetic out of your system depending on your Weight. The fat absorbs the anesthesia and releases it slowly over a couple of days.
If they remove the gallbladder by a laprascopic procedure they inflate your abdomen with CO2 gas and it takes 24-48 hrs post surgery for your body to completely absorb it. Flying may give you some extra shoulder pain which can be common after this procedure related to the O2 gas.
Ask your surgeon how long before you can fly is the best answer.
