My shoulder is killing me - hurts most when I reach backwards.?!

Question:

My shoulder is killing me - hurts most when I reach backwards.?

It started out as an ache - then its getting worse. It hurts the most when I reach backwards to get something, or when I reach up to grab something. And YES I went to the doctor - took xrays and said it might be a torn tendon or arthritic shoulder???? it didn't make any sense - I got the usual take Aleve and that it takes about a year for the pain to subside - its been about five months now. what bothers me is that I don't know what caused it - it just started hurting. I don't recall any injuries or overuse of this arm to substantiate this pain. I guess I am a little dissatisfied with the doctor's diagnosis. (take two aspirins and go the bed kind of thing)

okkayyyy - reaching backwards: Have you ever been at a stoplight in your car and you want to grab something from the back seat, like a bottle of water that you just got from the market or your purse or something? That's the kind of activity I am talking about. Certainly I've seen breakdancers doing that when they are practicing their moves but I aint no breakdancer.

Oh and reaching up - have you ever been on a plane and the damn fan is blowing in your face so you have to reach up to turn it off? that kind of reaching up - not a common practice but you do it sometimes. getting something from a high cupboard is another.

I agree with Marcia (what's her name)--get thyself to a chiropractor. My Dad used to go to a chiropractor and I always considered chiropractors to be quacks and a waste of money. One day in my car I reached to the passenger floorboard to retrieve what had rolled off the seat and OMG the pain was excrutiating--no prior indications that there was anything wrong. A few weeks later, after having done the doctor advised treatment--aspirin and hot pads--I decided it couldn't hurt and sought treatment from a chiropractor. I paid for it all out of my pocket as not insurance covered, but it was worth every cent (and more--but I wouldn't tell him that in case he decides he needs to raise his rates). You will find chiropractors charge a lot less than physicians.
