Should I worry about this cut?!

Question:

Should I worry about this cut?

I was at a creek today, and when walking across a stone bridge i scraped the bottom of my food on a rusted bolt. Water was running over the bridge at the time, and the cut is now sore and beginning to redden. I have cleaned it twice since and applied Neosporin. My concern lies in tetanus, or am I just paranoid?

Answers:

tetanus, possible but not likely.
colostridium tetani - the bacteria which causes tetanus is an anaerobe - which means it can not exist in oxygen environment, it needs an oxygen free environment to live.
if the wound on your foot is a slash rather than a puncture, I would not be as concerned.
(puncture wounds self close and are more likely to be the site of tetanus infections).
clean the wound with soap and water, air dry, disenfect with peroxide, air dry, apply your neosprin and apply a dressing. perform twice daily.
If you really want to play it safe see you doctor, and make sure you have an up to date tetanus shot, (within 10 yrs).
