i donated a pint last time(it was my second time).

Answers:

normally when you lose a pint of blood (i think in metric so not sure how much that is) your leg has been cut off, or shot or stabbed or something traumatic. this trauma cause the release of a bunch of chemicals that let you body know what has happened and starts to compensate for the blood loss.

giving blood is a painless as they can make it. so when you stand up or sit up your body is acting as if you only have a little cut (which is true) but doesn't realise the huge blood loss. most of the time your veins hold a lot of blood - when you lose blood the veins get the blood back to the heart asap instead of taking the long way home. if the veins haven't been instructed to do this then the brain doesn't get enough blood. thus you feel dizzy.

you lie down and let your body figure it out the slightly longer way.
