Horse bite?!

Question:

Horse bite?

I went to visit a friend at the weekend and she owns horses.

We were getting them in from the field when the one i was leading started shaking his head, then he pulled his head up really high and plunged down onto my arm. He had a hold of the skin and he was right next to the bone. he had a tight hold on my arm hard and I managed to pinch the space above the nostril with my left hand and he released his jaw. We walked a few more steps and he did it again. But this time he had my arm and was shaking it up and down.

my arm is a funny colour and i have two - they look like thread veins but they are red. the area is also very swollen and hot.

should i go to my DR? i dont want to look stupid.

Laura- i was actually down there with my friend, with a view to buying this pony.

Never the less after the bite and a two hour ride from hell, i've decided not to buy him!

My GP gave me some antibiotics and says it is extremely bruised but it will be ok.

Answers:

Horses won't usually break the skin because of their teeth (herbavores) but have strong jaws for grinding up their food. You could have anything from ruptures blood vessels but torn muscles. Put ice on it and head to the Doc.
