Left shoulder aching, diagnoses??!

Question:

Left shoulder aching, diagnoses??

My left shoulder has been hurting for about a month now. I pulled it when I was benching at the gym and since than i took a week off from working out than I gave it another shot and it still ached. I gave it another few days off and it still aches. I know I obviously need to give it a longer a break to allow it to heal but can anyone tell me what else I could do to heal it faster? it only hurts when I stretch it to far behind my back.

Answers:

I have recently had arthroscopic surgery for the same thing, I couldn't reach behind me either. Mine was caused by a tear in the cartilage, as well as tendonitis caused by a burr on the bone. The pain is so much better now, and I'm doing PT to regain my range of motion.

Yours sounds like you may have torn something in there, either your rotator cuff or your cartilage like I did. Maybe you were benching too much weight. Since the pain hasn't gone away after a month, I would go see your dr. You may need to have an MRI so they can see what's wrong. It's also possible you may need surgery to repair it, but with the scope, you won't have a big incision and your recovery time will be quite short. I would recommend it, as I said my pain is basically gone.

In the meantime, use ice and ibuprofen for the pain and inflammation, and rest the shoulder.

Take care.
