Has anyone ever had a stent fitted because of kidney stones ?!

Question:

Has anyone ever had a stent fitted because of kidney stones ?

i had a stent fitted 12 weeks ago because a kidney stone was blocking my ureter. i have a stone in the kidney too and was told i would need keyhole surgery to remove the stones but have not been called back yet. has anyone had experience of this and have you been able to lead a normal life whilst the stent has been in place. i have found it difficult to use certain machines in the gym and when moving around have to pay a visit to the loo every 30 mins or else !

Answers:

Did your doctor mention "Lithotripsy" instead of the "Keyhole" surgery you mentioned above? It's non-invasive; versus the keyhole surgery... ask him/her if you're a candidate for that rather than the keyhole procedure. It's worth a try. Works for my husband 9 times out of 10 and he's a "frequent-flyer" when it comes to kidney stones and ureteral stents...gets a kidney stone roughly every 18 months or so. And I work in surgery, so I know first hand what he goes through; from both a surgical stand point and a patient stand point. As for the frequent urination; very common with the stent in place. It creates extra pressure. Has your doc ok'd the use of weight machines and you working out to begin with while having the stent/s in place? Just wondering...
Good luck with whichever procedure you have!
