Is my ankle sprained from a shin injury?!

Question: Is my ankle sprained from a shin injury?
I fell down the stairs because apparently I can't walk in heels. Once I started falling, I leaned my torso back to avoid going face first and my shins went under me so I slid down the 7 concrete stairs on my shins and ankles. I collected myself and I was able to limp away from the scene and make it to the ER. My left leg took the worst of it with an abrasion and pain. The University ER took two x-rays and the Dr. told me nothing is broken and it's not sprained because the injury was not to my ankle, just some shin bruising. However, a couple of days later, my ankle is bruised dark purple, pink, blue and green and everything is swollen. The sides of my foot, around my ankle even my the tops of my toes are absolutely hideous. I couldn't find a bruised ankle image on the web that is as bad as mine. It is still a little sore, but I can walk on it fine. I am guessing I did in fact sprain my ankle, but I wonder if the bruising is a sign of anything else, other than the fact that I bruise easily and can the bruising itself cause any complications like clotting? I would really appreciate some words of wisdom. Also, is it better to keep it wrapped and elevated or not wrapped and walk around a lot?

Answers:

you most likely have a deep bone bruise and a sprained ankle. there wont be clotting dont worry. it is the best to keep it wrapped elevate it and ice it. if its not better in a week go to the doctor.
