Have you heard of a trapped nerve in the hand caused by cycling?

This is for the Doctors. This one is found in older cyclists. Resembles arthritus condition (the diagnostics).

Numbness in one of the nerves that goes from the fingers to the elbow. Cure: cessation of cycling for a bit.

Rigid bikes over bumpy roads is maybe the cause.

Ulnar Nerve

Answers:

You may be referring to carpal tunnel syndrome - compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel.
This is esp. a problem if you don't reposition your hands when riding, or don't use extended rests for your forearms.
The symptoms are numbness and tingling esp. in the thumb, first and second fingers. Prolonged pressure leads to muscle wasting in the first web space (between the thumb and first finger).
If unrelieved by rest, heat/cold, splinting, activity modification, therapy, cortisone injection it will require surgical release. Even then, symptoms may persist, if only to a lesser degree.
