Low grade fever for a week - not going away?!

Question:

Low grade fever for a week - not going away?

A week ago, I felt a "fullness" in my lungs and was very warm-feeling, though my temp was 98.6 (I generally run 97.6 when I'm well).

I called the doctor on Monday, he prescribed a Z-pack, and I took that.

Now it's Sunday night again, I still feel horrible, and the temp has been steadily getting worse and hit 99.0 today.

I realize this isn't a horrible fever, but I *feel* hot if that makes sense. It does go away with Motrin, but I worry about basically covering up something rather than getting rid of it.

I've also had a headache, and a bit of coughing, though it didn't develop into a full cough, like you'd get with bronchitis.

I guess I'm just wondering if I should call the doctor again tomorrow. I'm sick of feeling sick, but maybe I should just try to ride it out. I don't know - I don't want to be one of those patients that calls over the least sniffle, you know?

Thoughts?

Answers:

You are right you don't want to just cover up something that could be wrong. I would definately get to the Dr. if you are still sick. I am also suprised the Dr. would give a z-pac without knowing you if you do indeed have a bacterial infection or a virus and what antibiotic is effective against the infection that is being treated. Over prescribing antibiotics years ago is why we have all of the super infections of today., that and pts. not finishing a course of antibiotics or not taking as ordered by the Dr.
