Chest pains in teenager??!

Question:

Chest pains in teenager??

I'm a teenager, and for the past month I've been having chest pains. It will only happen twice a week, if that much, and only for 2-3 minutes. When I breathe in, I feel a very sharp pain near my heart. For it to go away, I feel like something is moving in my chest, like if you've ever rubbed your elbow or knee on a hard surface and felt the cartiledge moving. Sometimes that happens on its own, but sometimes I have to breathe in really deeply (so it hurts a lot) for it to go away. Any ideas??

Answers:

Yes, unfortunately teens and kids have these problems sometimes, too. My 14 yo son has to have yearly checkups with a cardiologist due to minor congenital heart defects. Nothing serious, just have him checked yearly.

It may be something as simple as a cracked rib, which taked a long time to heal, and nothing can be done for the rib. A fractured rib can cause a great deal of pain for several months, depending on location and severity of the break.

Tell your parents you'are having some troubles, and need to see a doc to be on the safe side. Good luck.
