How long does it take to mend a broken leg???!

Question:

How long does it take to mend a broken leg???

I managed to break my lower fibula in four places, (ankle) - I understand its approximately four weeks for setting, then I may be put in a weight bearing plaster.

Does anyone out there know the approximate process of healing bones? How safe is it to start weight bearing, etc.,
It does not seem to hurt when I stand on it, although I am still wearing a fibreglass cast, its loose and I can stand ok???

I often get feeling of closterphodia, and want to rip the cast off!!!

Additional Details

Thank you, Claustophobia, jjjjjjjeze!!!!

I hate these people who are rude enough to correct other peoples spelling, it would better to correct their manners!!!!

Answers:

For a broken fibula, it takes about 4-6 weeks more 6 than 4 because I don't like to take chances in letting someone weightbear too early. It sounds like the bones are not displaced so hence you're in a cast. If all goes well in 4-6 weeks, you'll be in a walking boot. The cast looseness is your leg getting smaller and the swelling is going down so it's normal. You shouldn't put any weight on it unless you get the OK from your doctor. Once you get the OK to walk and put weight in a walking boot, then the doc will send you to PT to get the muscle tone back in the leg and get the stiffness out. Busted ankles can take you out 6-8 weeks so be patient. Hope this helps!
